Tuxedo Shorts Are Wrong

One of the unexpected side effects of my new hockey obsession is an increased interest in sports overall. Inspired by the IPB field trip to the U.S. Open, I decided to sit down and watch some tennis this weekend. It was surprisingly fun! Here is what I learned:

1. When asked to choose between a good natured American, and a cranky German, I chose “cranky German”. Interesting.

2. When asked to choose between an underdog wearing a normal outfit, and possibly the best tennis player ever wearing a douchey outfit, I chose “underdog”.

3. When you wish to convince me to like your beloved Federer, emailing me a picture of him happily accepting a cow as a tournament prize is a surprisingly effective tactic.

In other, non-tennis related news, Happy Birthday to both Pookie and Maxim Afinogenov (KFS)! Hoo-ray! Happy Birthday, guys! (This has been a very good week for Max, hasn’t it? First he’s named Kate’s Favorite Sabre, and then it’s his birthday. I hope the guy has a high threshold for exhilarating excitement.)

kate, you chose the Cranky German??????????? the cow is awesome, though. instead of flowers after concerts, we should receive animals! or both, as in the picture.

I was as surprised as you, Elise! There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about Blake, I just found myself inexplicably liking Haas more. That was part of the fun of watching tennis for the first time in ten years- figuring out who to cheer for. It turns out I like cranky Germans.

Can you imagine getting done with a long concert, and then during the bows someone hands you the reigns to a gigantic cow? Heh.

Ha, you chose Tommy Haas. Good for you. I met him once at a tennis thing in Rotterdam, and decided that despite the fact that he’s German (and being half Dutch I am therefore supposed to dislike him a whole bunch) he’s a really cool cookie.

Yeah, the cow is pretty compelling eh? And he looks so happy with it!

He didn’t want to wear the tuxedo shorts! He wanted to wear lederhosen and flower garlands! Nike made him do it!!

Max and I sitting here celebrating as part of the Sept. 4 Crowd and he says he loves tuxedo shorts.

Sadly, Max probably does love tuxedo shorts.

He probably also loves strategically torn–and silly expensive–jeans and wearing designer clothes in a tacky, nouveau riche manner. Not that I know any of this for fact, I’m just generalizing based on nationality here.

For some reason I can totally see Max in tuxedo shorts, thinking he looked totally hot.

This has been a very good week for Max, hasn’t it? First he’s named Kate’s Favorite Sabre, and then it’s his birthday.

I’m sure Max is skating crazy celebratory circles wherever he is!

maybe max is doing belly slides on the ice in joyous celebration of being crowned KFS and sharing a momentous day with Pookie!!

This is a very good post. I love the discussion of modern tennis outfits. I also hate tuxedo shorts and love the term douchey.
