Guess who got to play the Ronan Tynan concert tonight? That’s right! Inner Child Katebits!
I played the concert. Actually, I more or less, crashed the concert. My dear friend Janz got permission from our conductor, JoAnn Falletta, for me to simply pull up a chair and play along. It was all done outside of the laws of seating charts, union rules, and normal protocol. I really wanted to play the concert, and in the end, no one could think of a reason why I shouldn’t. So, I played!
Inner Child Katebits had an awesome time tonight. Take a minute, and try to imagine what it would be like to have Staffy and Crunchy wandering around at your place of employment. Yeah. It was a super fun day at the office.
I can’t believe the Ice Bowl is still yet to come (…even though it’s going to be totally LAME. If you can’t go you are SO LUCKY). Due to the incredible reversal of fortune for Inner Child Katebits, I’m starting to think that if I publish all of my little hopes on the internet, they’ll eventually come true. (Just in case the internet is magical, I would like to state for the record that Inner Child Katebits really wants world peace, an end to poverty, and a Wii.)
The Willful Caboose 
Last night was a magical night for all of our inner children, Kate! …so glad you were there! It was awesome!
As heartbreaking as the previous installment of Inner Child Katebits was, this one is so filled with joy and happiness! I just know that world peace, and end to poverty and a Wii are right around the corner!

Okay, so I don’t think I was clear on the fact that the Ronan Tynan show and the show where actual Sabres were going to show up was going to be the same show. Exactly what role do hockey players fill on a concert featuring a bald Irish tenor?
(By the way, I assume you realize that, having now published the name of your MD, she will shortly become a reader of your blog. Conductors, in my experience, are masters of the self-Google. Best of luck with that…)

Yes, Katebits, there is a Santa Claus. Yay for you – and yay that everybody figured out what we here knew all along – that this concert needed you as much as you needed it!
Now if Santa would just bring Heather a new ankle before tomorrow, Buffalo will be restored to its rightful state.
Sam, the Sabres organized, paid for, and promoted this concert to “kick start” the Ice Bowl festivities. Ryan Miller and Drew Stafford played their guitars on two U2 songs. It was….actually pretty adorable. Even though it was a typical pops show for the orchestra (with the addition of the hockey players of course), it was actually a pretty big event for Buffalo. It was sold out, well done, and it was a different crowd then we are used to seeing in attendance at the BPO.
My main motivation for going was the possibility of meeting Crunchy and Staffy. Which I did. Which was incredibly fun.
Did you get to have any dorky fan moments? Like, did you get them to sign your viola case or the music sheet or a body part for you? (you play the viola – right? – sorry if I got it wrong)
Dorky fan moments are the best (if embarassing!).
Oh DAMN! I totally forgot about my plan to get them to sign a copy of Sabre Dance!
Blitzen, I did have some dorky fan moments. Pretty much all of my encounters with them involved a lot of goofy stammering and unreasonable flusteriness. I did have them sign stuff, and I did get a picture (sadly it’s not on my camera. It was taken by a photographer who was covering the event, so I have to try to hunt it down). They were both extremely nice and polite, and Drew Stafford is outrageously hot in person. (I’m sure you were curious. :P)
I am ridiculously happy for and jealous of you all at once! So cool!!I’m glad they were super nice, too. Always nice to hear.
I kind of laughed at the pics, how everyone else was in tuxes and they were in jeans. AWESOME.
