Buck Up, Buffalo.

I really think everyone needs to calm the eff down about the Terrell Owens stuff.

If you are honestly surprised/shocked/upset by any of this, well, then this is more of a “shame on you” situation.

Let’s just let this silliness role off our backs.  This doesn’t have to be a sign of the end of civilization as we know it.  This the T.O. Show.  It’s nothing.   It’s nonsense.  It’s absolutely nothing new, and we knew it was coming.

Buffalo needs to buck up, because it’s only going to get worse.  People in far away places are going to make fun of us, and we will have the choice to get all worked up, and act all insecure, or, we can have a sense of humor and let it go.

Look, Buffalo is an easy target.  We’re easy to make fun of.  WHO CARES?  They were making fun of us before Terrell Owens got here too.  It’s no biggie.

Here are the things that are NOT going to happen:

1. People in the media are not going to stop pushing this.  This is money in the bank.

2. Certain Buffalonians are NOT going to stop eating this up.  I’m too lazy to do ANY research, but I’m willing to bet that T.O. has caused a big, undignified scene in every town he’s ever played.  We are not being uniquely stupid.  This stupidity is a worldwide epidemic.

3.  T.O. is not going to be a quiet teammate.

This is the circus we signed up for when we said, “Yay!  Terrell Owens!”  It doesn’t have to consume us and it doesn’t have to make us feel badly about who we are.  It’s show business.

Either ignore it, or embrace it, but please don’t act like this is a surprise.

Don’t get me wrong. I like T.O. in B-Low. It’s just the key to the city thing. Seriously? Shouldn’t they have given him the playbook first?

Of course they should have, wnylibrarian, but this is VH1 produced entertainment.

If Buffalonians want to feel embarrassed by the mayor or any other local politician, perhaps it should be because of the general state of the region. The key thing is just silliness.

This is show business. It’s certainly not very dignified, but it’s also just not that big a deal. It’s also exactly what was to be expected.

On behalf of the rest of the nation, and by way of support, allow me to just say: huh? What’d he do now? The rest of us haven’t heard anything about TO since he left Dallas…

I agree. But the key to a city should be reserved to those who actually accomplished something. Like kickass grammys winning orchestras. ;-)

Buffalo, chill. It takes way too much energy to get upset every time someone makes a comment of some kind you don’t like.

Kate, Sully’s taking a poll on his blog about who deserved the key more. I put a vote in for the BPO in your honor.

Sam, T.O. showed up for the optional training this weekend with an entire VH1 crew in tow filming everything for his reality show. There was a rally at the airport on his arrival, and then on Monday the MAYOR gave him the key to the city. It was redonk, but it was all just VH1 created. Some people around here are using this opportunity to act all shocked and horrified. I say, this is pretty much what we knew we were getting into. Don’t sweat it, Buffalo!

As a recent recipient of the Key to the City, I say to TO, “Welcome! Please don’t run women over with your car, and try not to fuck Trent Edwards up for life!” :P

    Hee! Thanks Grrrreg and Heather!

    I don’t usually post when I couldn’t agree more, but I couldn’t agree more.
And I think we are long overdue for a BPO-related post. I want to more about what is going on in Viola land.

So, Buffalo’s upset about being all over VH1? I would think Buffalo would pretty much be thrilled to be on any channel but VS at this point…

I think the BPO should have it’s own VH1 reality show. TO doesn’t even make MUSIC, for pete’s sake! Then in the second season, the viola section could get it’s own spin-off, and every week someone would get eliminated, and have to join the violin section. There would be tearful ceremony where you would have to turn in your C-string. I am not sure what the last violist would win at the end. Then in the third season it could be like Flavor Flav and Brigitte Neilson, the odd-couple thing, you know, only instead of those two it could be T.O. and the BPO. TO and the BPO could do funny things together like go to Paris or see how they’d do if they had jobs working on a farm, or something. d then the BPO would drink too much and hook up with T.O. in the house hot tub and then be really embarassed the next day. I’m overtired.

I was thinking of a post comparing each of the Sabres to a composer.

Ok as a big bills fan, and a TO fan even prior to this all, I gotta comment..

    1.
As far as media attention and making a mockery of the city. I’ve seen none. I watch Sportscenter daily, and since his arrival there really hasn’t been any Terrell coverage. And the VH1 cameras following/ his show, this was all planned before his signing with Buff.

And how is it money in the bank? Only $ in the bank I see is the fortune the Bills will make off his jerseys, and the for sure sell out game every season due to Terrell.

    2. TO’s first season with every team has gone off drama free.. Uh well minus celebration dances. No teammate drama.
And with fans eating it up, this is the first time in nine years there’s been a real chance to even make the playoffs. He’s done it his first season with every team, I believe.

    3. He talks and runs his mouth when deserves (mcnab!) Plus I mean who else has cried over people talking bad about their qb?

I just do not understand the problem people in this city have with him being here. If we wanna hate a Bill I vote for Marshawn.
