A Super Cute Win

Last night the Sabres won in overtime against the Bruins, ending a three game losing streak. Clarke MacArther (the kid they called up from Rochester to replace the injured ranks), potted the game winning goal. The on ice celebration was one of the cutest thing the world has ever seen. Clarke hopped up and down, and then jumped into the open arms of Hank Tallinder who was totally swept up in the moment, laughing and hopping along with his young teammate. Eventually, the rest of the team piled on in a mind-bending display of epic helmet nuzzling.

Even the logo is cute.

Some wins make you feel pumped up. Some wins feel incredibly satisfying. Some wins feel inevitable. Some wins create a sense of relief. It’s the rare win that makes you giggle and say, “Awwwww”. The thing I really liked about this particular celebration was the sense of glee. Everyone was laughing.

I think our boys are at their best when the overall cute factor of a game is very high. I know we all want to think of our hockey team as a bunch of rugged warriors, but for whatever reason, this particular crew seems to have a slightly more delicate disposition. Who can blame them? Clarke MacArther’s adorableness is a powerful motivator! Clearly this version of the Sabres likes cute. (Wait a minute…maybe that’s why they can’t play without Briere……The cute factor took a crippling blow when he left!)

Lindy, you should consider getting a bunch of puppies and kittens to live in the dressing room. It certainly can’t hurt.

Cute wins games, people!

The problem is they have been playing like bunnies and kittens of late. I’m a little sad I missed the game and this missed this display of cute overload. Wait, no I had a pretty good night.

I’m in love with that photo of Hank and Clarke. So adorable! Did you watch Clarke’s post-game interview? It’s up on the Sabres website and it’s also adorable – he cannot stop smiling.

What in the hell is that fuzzy thing on the far right? No, not MacArther, dammit! Other photo – on the right, the one that looks like a cross between a fox, a guinea pig, and Dick Cheney! I mean, what IS that?
