I am Buffalonian, Hear Me Roar

You know, I got off the plane in Buffalo today, and I was just really happy to be back home. It has taken me a long time to get here, but I am really happy and comfortable in Buffalo. I have always fancied myself a big city kind of gal, but I have to admit, this little city has really gotten under my skin.

Let’s go Buff-a-lo!

I find it’s always being away from home that makes you realize how much you love it. Whenever I go away, even when I’m just on vacation, I’m reminded of how much I love New York. I’m glad Buffalo has gotten to you–it’s that kind of place. :)

Much as I hate to see you gradually giving up your eternal devotion to Minnesota and only Minnesota, I must say that I endorse anyone who becomes devoted to a cool city to which most people never give a second thought. As long as you continue to visit me at least twice a year, I can accept your Buffalonianism quite happily.

(Oh, and just for the record, “big city girl,” population of Minneapolis is technically only 382,000. Buffalo stacks up more or less even with St. Paul, around 285,000. I don’t think any of us really qualify as big city folk, and I for one like it that way. Give me Portland over Seattle, Minneapolis over Chicago any day…)

Ah, but they’re so close that it’s twice the city fun, no? My sister and I loved Minneapolis the one time we visited, although we didn’t have nearly enough time there.

I don’t even pretend anymore that I don’t absolutely love Buffalo. I totally do. I never want to move again.

Heh. You’re giving St. Paul faaaar too much credit there, Meg. I’m willing to count them as, oh, let’s say 2/3 of a city. (My Mpls bias has gotten pretty strong in the last couple of years. That figure would’ve been 1/3 except for the facts that a) my favorite restaurant is in St. Paul, and b) the Wild play there.)

But yes, the Cities are an excellent outpost. I wouldn’t care to live anywhere else…

Buffalo would be a very sad place without you, Kate.

I feel the exact same way! I think it’s the new green lights along Elmwood.
