Please Recycle

It was a rough weekend for Sabres fans. Our one ray of sunshine was the Sabres’ new “Blue and Gold Makes Green” initiative. The Sabres are attempting to use Paul Gaustad’s affability and handsomeness to convince us to recycle and turn off the lights when we leave the room. I think this is a fine strategy. As Schnookie said last night, “If Paul Gaustad did a commercial encouraging me to grind puppies and kittens into sausages, I’d probably do what he asked.” Goose just has one of those faces that makes you want to agree to his demands.

Let’s take a look at his fine work, shall we?

I think we’ve all learned a lot here today. Namely, we’ve learned that Paul Gaustad is the foundation of spectacular PSAs. Give a hoot, guys. Do it for Goose.

I’m glad to see that Goose is letting his feathers grow out a little. That buzz cut really wasn’t working for me.

    I adore his furrowed brow.

The hair is definitely an improvement. And that commercial was definitely a fine example of Goose’s hotness. The furrowed brow was excellent.

This green initiative though–I’m now busy judging the Sabres players who didn’t sign up for that “buy carbon credits” thing. And, y’know, I don’t buy carbon credits so I don’t really know where I get off, but seriously, now I’m all, “Tim Connolly is always hurt and he hates the environment!” I really need to learn to chill out. And possibly stop making the Sabres green initiative all about me while I’m at it.

I know! Watch the guys that didn’t sign up for it are like, “But I ride my bike to work every day, I’ve subsidized switching all my neighbors’ cars to run on vegetable oil, and I collect all the gray water from HSBC to water community-run gardens in my area. Get off my back about the carbon credits!”

I bet Connolly calculated the amount of carbon emissions offsets created by the 19 guys who did buy credits and then idled his fleet of Hummers long enough to make up for it.

That’s probably the best thing I’ve seen all day.

    HOOOONNNNNK!

Your team’s recycle commercials > my team’s recycle commercials. In ours, our players basically stand by a recycling bin, and knock a can into it with a stick and tell people to recycle…only without all of the spectacular facial expressions and actual thought that Gaustad seemingly used.

Meg, where did you see the list of the guys who signed up for the “carbon credit” program? I’m desperate to know who hates the environment!

  7. 7 Meg February 18, 2008 at 10:55 pm

The list of all the players in the league have signed up is here. I only found it because I saw the link at Fire Wagon Hockey, so Maal deserves all the credit for allowing us to know who the environment haters are.

    1. Doesn’t Staffy make the same “furrowed eyebrows” look? How cute.

    2. Goose was on WGR on Valentine’s Day!!! Ya gotta listen to his 3 segments in the audio vault.

oh oh noooo! Is it true? Marty Biron hates the environment?! Tell me it’s not true! Soupy does?

PandoNation is stunned — STUNNED — to discover Pando isn’t on the list. I think it’s because he was injured when they handed the paperwork out.

i have to say this guy looks a wee bi like Dexter the killer to me :)

See, we don’t know when the list was issued, so that makes it just a little iffy…that being said, I’m STUNNED to discover neither Niedermayer is on there.

Chalk up another “firm, decisive convictions” point for Scott Niedermayer! 9_9

Geez – all we got here in Ottawa is Dr. David Suzuki on the jumbotron.

uhhhhh………….thud. Darn you Goose for being so adorable I can’t IMAGINE throwing a water bottle in the trash!

  15. 15 Becky February 19, 2008 at 7:06 pm

A shorter list would have been those that are missing – put some pressure on…

Elise, you must live in MN. While I fully agree the adds are lame, you have to admit that Marc Chouinard was all kinds of hot in those jeans and shirt. I used to stay in my seat during the intermission and wait for the commercial! Overall, I agree that Goose does it better.

The commercial only could have been funnier if there were a goose walking around in the background honking, and possibly starting a compost pile….

First time green-screen technology was used and left as-is.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAHAH! Oh how I WISH there was a goose wondering around in the background!
