2. Speaking of Minneapolis, I’m going to the Minnesota State Fair tomorrow, which might possibly be the most redonk place on earth.
3. Speaking of redonk, the Coyotes. Yikes.
4. Speaking of yikes, Drew Stafford is still not signed.
5. Speaking of not signed, waiting to close on a house is lame.
6. Speaking of lame, my quilt pattern had a sizable mistake.
7. Speaking of a sizable mistake, I should never have resisted Mad Men for so long. If it turns out that Mad Men is actually super good, does that necessarily mean that The Wire is ALSO good? I’ve been REFUSING The Wire for years, but my resistance is weakening.
8. Speaking of weakening, I CAN NO LONGER PRETEND THAT HOCKEY ISN’T RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER! IT IS! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! HOCKEY IS PRACTICALLY HERE!
The Willful Caboose 
I will say that while the Wire is very, very (very, very, VERY) good – forget Emmys, it should have won literature and social awards – it is a very different beast from Mad Men at least based on what little I’ve seen of Mad Men. On one hand, I can’t understand anyone watching the Wire and not getting sucked into it… but on the other hand, I can understand someone watching the Wire and deciding it’s not their thing. It is super awesome but it’s hard to watch sometimes. But you should try it eventually. I respect the I REFUSE but it might be worth the I REFUSE exception. (It’s a bit of a slow burn so if you do cave, I think you have to give it at least… I don’t know, let’s say five episodes.)
Hockey really IS right around the corner! I was discussing forward lines with someone the other day and it seemed okay to be doing that! Yippee!
Yes, hockey IS right around the corner, and I plan on going to more hockey games this year. I hope they’re better than the one I saw last year (Sabres vs Caps on 30 December). I also should get to see the Jr. Sabres, uh, I mean Pirates a few times as they play a team near where I live a couple times and a team near where my sister goes to college a couple times.
You even can get your fill of hockey at the Minnesota state fair as the Wild are planning on unveiling their third jersey there Saturday.

Mad Men – Very good, but kinda depressing
The Wire – Amazing, but you need to pay FULL attention to every episode and it takes a few before you are really into it.
Regarding point #4, perhaps while in the Minneapolis area, you can track down Staffy and ask him if he forgot how to sign his name. Too much of his angry metal music might have done brain damage over the summer….

Agreed! I was trying to figure out where “The Shield” would fit in my list of top 10 favorite tv shows and realized that I wasn’t putting the “The Wire” on that list because it really kinda transcends television. Heather’s right, it’s not for everyone, but I will say this: it’s not all depressing all the time*, and it’s not like doing homework (those were the two reasons I REFUSED it for years). You know how much better “Arrested Development” was than anything else on at the same time as it? “The Wire” is like that, only slightly less screwball. Slightly. :D
*Season 4 excluded.

I just started the wire last month and I’m halfway into the second season. I must say, that this is one of the best things I’ve ever watched. Not only are all of the acclaims for the social aspects that it hits well deserved, you will come to realize how bad-ass of a song “The Farmer in the Dell” can be.
You need to watch The Wire. SO good.

Cool! Peter, will you be in town before then? I’m leaving for Buffalo on Tuesday. I should go to a baseball game at the dome before I leave. It might be my last chance. (Not that the Dome isn’t totally heinous, but I saw a LOT of games there as a kid.) They’ll be in the new stadium next year, right?
Nah, just Wednesday. It’ll be part of this insane roadtrip I have lined up from Sunday through Labor Day which gets me to ten games in nine MLB parks in nine days(with a day off). But yes, I’ll be back again in 2010 for the opening of Target Field….and possibly Wells Fargo Stadium for the Gophers too…
I think you might like The Wire. Filner loves it. It’s his favorite show ever. It’s far too gritty for me, but a little grit never bothered you, did it?
