1. I wonder how many suits each Sabre brought on the West coast road trip. Do they wear the same suit the whole time, and just switch out the shirt and tie? I doubt it.

Having worked at the dry cleaner that many Sabres frequented, I can tell you that they all have a boatload of suits. I have a feeling that some of them bring one black suit, two shirts and 16 ties but most of them have several they bring along for various climate changes, sweatiness and being the victim of some food-related disaster.

Andrew Peters used to bring his suits in and figure out how many to get cleaned based on their upcoming schedule. I never quite figured out his system but it worked for Petey.

Innnnteresting. I like it when I casually ponder something on my blog and then someone chimes in all, “Oh, well I happen to know a thing or two about the Sabres’ suits…”

I wonder if they get superstitious over some suits and were some of them over and over… Or if they have too much pride to let their superstitions make them suffer any fashion faux pas’.

I’d love to know how Derek Roy kept that white suit of his clean.

Even more in-depth, are they told how much luggage they can bring with them on a road trip?

It’s weird cause I was actually thinking about the jerseys today instead. I was thinking, what if something happens to one? Do they have numerous ones for the road? What if one rips? Can you sew it, or do two people have to wear the same name and number?
Yeah don’t ask me why I think about these things…lol.

Actually, most teams take at least 3 jerseys for each player. One to wear, one in case the first gets ripped or bloody and one “oh sh%&” jersey. I’ve seen examples of teams taking as many as 5 per player, including the off-color, in case there’s an issue with the other team’s jerseys and they’re forced to switch.

You can sew jerseys but it must bring them back to original condition. Usually they just pull out another one. Any jerseys or equipment with blood on them must be changed immediately… another reason they generally carry more jerseys for tough guys.

I know there was one game where, I think it was the Flyers and out west somewhere, the luggage got loaded on the wrong plane and they arrived with no jerseys at all. The game was played wearing the opponent’s practice jerseys, because those had no names on them. Just numbers.

As for 2 people wearing the same jersey, it’s explicitly not allowed. Each player must wear an individual number that can’t change during the game. Also, the name on the plate (if present) must be the correct name.
