It is NOT Tom Golisano Appreciation Day ANYMORE. Infact Today Is “Tom Golisano, Don’t Let The Door Hit You On The Way Out” Day.

I just….

Please go away now Tom Golisano and Friends.

I think we can all agree that this little trick the Sabres have pulled with Darcy’s top-secret-contract-extension-which-just-so-happens-to-correspond-with-the-sale-of-the-team raises a Hechtload of dicey questions. But…whatever. These wackadoos will be gone soon.

I don’t have a problem with this at all. Granted, I’m generally pro-Darcy, and if we had a GM I hated I’d probably hate this. But just because this is a surprise to the public doesn’t mean it’s a surprise to Pegula. It’s impossible to believe that this couldn’t have been disclosed to him during the negotiations and if he’s okay with it, so am I. If he chooses to buy Darcy out, he knew what he was in for. But for all we know, Pegula might actually want to keep Darcy, at least for a trial period. And I’d rather have a GM who can operate with the best interests of the team rather than one more concerned with his immediate future. People under pressure might rise to the occasion, but people under pressure with an axe looming overhead have a tendency to do stupid things.

Now we find out Lindy turned down an extension. Oh man, things are getting interesting.

February should be an interesting month.
